7th birthday party

My eldest son’s 7th birthday party entailed a small party at home, for some of his friends. My plan was to be as relaxed as possible on the day, and I think I achieved that with keeping it simple, and good organisation.

The cake – a dinosaur cake – was made the day before. I used a packet mix to keep it easy. I iced the cake, and used small dinosaur toys from the shops to decorate. I also made some edible soil for the toy dinosaurs to play in – just raw sugar and cocoa powder. The 7 year old boys loved that!

I also had some lollies, dinosaur fairy bread, dinosaur chocolate crackles, and then we had chicken wraps with tomato relish and cheese, and chips.

Party food should be fun, but it doesn’t have to be expensive. The chocolate crackles and fairy bread are so cheap, and chicken wraps are easy and cheap too. I buy chicken breast, slice it into long strips, and then coat it in flour. I dip it in egg, and then in the crumb, and fry. I use multi-grain tortillas for wraps, as I find them easier to wrap with, but it really doesn’t matter what type of wrap you use – whatever you like best!

I’d love to hear from anyone else who has done a dinosaur themed birthday party – what food did you make?
